…says Nigerians have rejected administration
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described President Bola Tinubu’s reported 30 percent approval rating after three years in office as evidence of widespread public dissatisfaction with his administration’s handling of the economy, insecurity, and cost of living crisis.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the figures reflected the growing hardship being experienced by Nigerians across the country.
Citing a survey conducted by Eagle Badger Data Analytics (EBDA), the ADC noted that only 30.2 percent of Nigerians approve of Tinubu’s performance, while 47.5 percent disapprove and many citizens say their living conditions have worsened since he assumed office in May 2023.
According to the opposition party, the statistics show that a significant majority of Nigerians are dissatisfied with the direction of the country under the current administration.
“A President with only 30 percent approval after three years in office has lost the confidence of the Nigerian people,” the statement said, adding that the figures amounted to “a national rejection.”
The ADC argued that worsening economic realities continue to affect millions of Nigerians, with rising food prices, transportation costs, unemployment, and business closures placing increasing pressure on households.
The party also referenced survey findings indicating that 62 percent of Nigerians believe they are worse off now than they were three years ago, while only 23.3 percent reported improvements in their living conditions.
According to the statement, food prices have reportedly risen by more than 90 percent since May 2023, while overall inflationary pressures have continued to erode purchasing power.
“The government continues to celebrate macroeconomic statistics, but Nigerians do not eat statistics. They pay rent, school fees, transport fares, and face insecurity daily,” the ADC stated.
On security, the party said many communities across the country still face attacks from bandits, kidnappers, terrorists, and other criminal groups, while farmers in several regions remain unable to safely access their farmlands.
The ADC maintained that after three years in office, the Tinubu administration could no longer attribute the country’s challenges solely to previous governments.
“Leadership is measured by outcomes, not excuses,” the statement added.
