IN keeping to the tradition of beginning the New Year with prayers, the Lagos State government yesterday held its 2016 inter-denominational thanksgiving service with notable religious leaders praying for the state and Nigeria as a whole.

Among those that led the prayer session were the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Founder of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo; representative of the Prelate of the Methodist Church, Most Rev. Luke Odubanjo and General Overseer of Christ Living Spring Apostolic, Apostle Wole Oladiyun.

Others were General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, (MFM), Pastor Daniel Olukoya; Most Rev. E. A. Ademowo who was represented by Vicar of Our Saviour’s Church, Ven. Tunde Oyediran; Archbishop Adewale Martins; Dr. Moses Aransiola; Pastor Wale Adefarasin and Rev. Mercy Ezekiel.

State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, said that the service was in line with tradition of beginning the year with God, “who has the over-riding power over all situations and the need for us to trust in His grace and benevolence as a government and a people.”

Ambode said despite predictions of economic downturn in the country and Africa continent in many quarters, the state’s economy would grow in leaps and bounds.

He said efforts were being made to ensure security of lives and property of the residents in the state.

In another development, Pastor Adeboye, yesterday told Nigerians to appreciate God for His goodness unto the nation despite various challenges confronting Nigeria.

Pastor Adeboye, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, during a thanksgiving service held at the headquarters of the Church, Throne of Grace, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, said: “There is every reason to give thanks to God. And if for any reason at all, we should thank Him for His mercies upon everyone.

“The Word of God says that if God were to mark iniquity, who will stand and therefore it is by His mercies that God has been dealing with us as individuals. Despite what we are, He has been fighting our battles for us.

Okonkwo, Odubanjo and others on their part prayed for the governor and his family, asking God to shower His peace and love upon them.
