Senator Solomon Adeola has released funds for the commencement of a re-electrification project aimed at restoring electricity to more than 50 communities in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and other parts of Ogun East Senatorial District that have reportedly been without power for over a decade.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Adeola’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, the project is being financed from the senator’s personal resources, in fulfilment of a pledge he made during a consultative visit to Ogun Waterside about two weeks ago.
Odunaro said contractors have been mobilised and funds released for the execution of the project, which covers communities including Onikintimbo, Gbegude, Olorunsogo, Malofe, Itebu-Manuwa, Mile 3, Mile 4, Igede, Oni, Alo, Olojumeta, Ibiade, Agodo, Tigara, Igbafo, Ilushin, Agbure, Efire, Lomiro, Obu, Ayede, Abigi, Ayila, Ita Ogun, Ita Otu, Makun Omi, Igbo Edu, Ode Omi and Awodikora, among others.
The re-electrification programme also extends to communities in Ijebu East Local Government Area, including J3 Junction, Mafowoku, Trianger, Fowoseje, Fotedo, Itapanpa, Denurin, Malara, Terelu, Toliwo, Uba, Ebute Imobi, Oki Igbode, Itasin, Araromi, Togunselu and Orita J4.
Explaining the intervention, Adeola said he was disturbed that many of the affected communities, which previously enjoyed electricity, had remained in darkness following the vandalisation of critical power infrastructure.
“I was disturbed to learn that a vast area of my state has been thrown into darkness for over a decade, with all the negative implications for socio-economic development and the standard of living. It is not everything we should leave for governments with limited resources at all levels. That is why I made a pledge to re-electrify these communities,” he said.
The senator added that during a meeting with the project’s lead contractor and the member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawal Samusideen Adekunle, he directed the contractor to complete the project within the shortest possible time.
According to the statement, the intervention has attracted widespread commendation from stakeholders in Ogun Waterside.
It said the Ogun Waterside Patriotic Forum, in a letter dated June 20, 2026, expressed appreciation for the initiative.
The letter, jointly signed by the Ojutumoro of Abigi and Chairman of the Ogun Waterside Council of Obas, Oba Olusegun Ogunye; former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abiodun Abudu Balogun; former Commissioner for Education and former Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Prof. Segun Awonusi; Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government, Hon. Adetoye Odunoiki; and Engr. Afolabi Ganiyu, described the project as one that would revive economic activities and improve living conditions in the affected communities.
The forum said the restoration of electricity would enable students to study at night, artisans to resume productive activities and businesses that depend on power supply to operate again, describing the intervention as “the restoration of dignity and economic life” for the affected communities.
