After The Guardian reported the deplorable state of roads in the Lagos metropolis on Tuesday, men of the State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), yesterday, commenced rehabilitation of Aswani Market Road, Isolo, one of the affected roads.
The situation of the road had been bad and was further exacerbated by the rains, which exposed its hitherto ravaged state. Consequently, motorists, who are battling with recent subsidy removal and its attendant impact on hike on cost of motor spare parts and petrol, called on Lagos State government to declare a state of emergency on road rehabilitation.
In response to that call, residents and motorists woke up to see the officers carrying out palliative repair works on the road. The Guardian learnt that the work was preparatory to proper reconstruction of the road, which had been in bad shape as well as providing cover for hoodlums to rob commuters and motorists.
