Again, gunmen yesterday invaded a Barakallahu community in Kaduna, killing a man identified as Imam Abubakar at the Fulani settlement in Igabi Local Council of Kaduna State, and also carted away several cows.

District Head of the community, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi, said that the incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. yesterday.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, promised to get in touch with the DPO in charge of the area and get back to journalists, but as at the time of filing this report, he did not.

HOWEVER, security forces said that they had neutralised five bandits in two locations spanning Birnin Gwari and Giwa local councils.

The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement, yesterday, said that the troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pump action rifle and three motorcycles from the criminals.

In another development, the Plateau State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ubah Gabriel Ogaba, while giving update on attack of the Jos custodial centre, advised journalists not to go to the correctional centre for any information as there is no entrance to the place as directed by the superior officers.

He, however, said that nine escapees had been re-arrested by the police and were now in custody, adding that one escapee voluntarily surrendered himself to the police.

MEANWHILE, a civil society organisation (CSO), Coalition of Irigwe Professionals for Peace and National Development (CIPPND), has condemned last week’s killing of 10 people and destruction of property in Ta’agbe community of Bassa Local Council of Plateau State.

In a statement, yesterday, signed by its National President, Dr. James Chohu, and made available to newsmen, the professional body described the fresh killings as reprehensible, barbaric, crude, premeditated, and provocative.

IN another development, former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has said that the electoral system should be rejigged to ensure the emergence of credible leaders.

He opined that the sanctions provided for in the Electoral Act should be activated to deal with electoral fraud and instill public confidence in the process.

Dogara, who was the keynote speaker at House of Justice Yearly Summit in Kaduna on the theme: “Leadership, Governance and National Security,” said: “Clear and sustainable policies must be evolved to tailor development that has human face with poverty alleviation as the measure for determining policy success or failure.”

MEANWHILE, the Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has said that the agency is doing everything in its power to end kidnappings, abductions, banditry and other criminalities but would need more personnel to cover more grounds.

The CG made this known in Abuja while playing host to the governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, who paid him a courtesy call at his office.

On his part, Bello noted that since the assumption of office of the CG, there had been a paradigm shift in the policies and programmes rolled out by the corps towards solving the nation’s security challenges.
ALSO, the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, has pleaded with stakeholders to bring ideas that could end the ongoing security threat in the country.

The CoAS, who spoke while addressing Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya yesterday at the Government House during his tour of army facilities across the country, added that with assured support from all and sundry, victory is just few yards away.
