Again, sea incursion ravages Ondo community
Destroys property, forces residents to relocate
Ayetoro, a riverine community in Ilaje Local Council of Ondo State, was ravaged yesterday by an incursion from the Atlantic Ocean.
With the sea incursion wreaking havoc in the community, many were rendered homeless, and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
According to the residents, the sea incursion had claimed more than half of the landmass of the community, adding that the disaster had become a yearly occurrence.
Secretary of the Ayetoro Youths Congress, Emmanuel Aralu, disclosed that no fewer than 200 buildings were affected.
Aralu, who said that many residents of the community had relocated to neighbouring communities, blamed the state government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the natural disaster owing to what he described as their failure to complete the N6.5 billion shoreline protection contract awarded to Atlantic Dredgers Limited in 2006.
