Again, two persons die in Bauchi road crash
Two days after 13 lives were lost in an auto crash along Bauchi-Gombe road, another accident yesterday claimed the lives of two persons along Bauchi-Jos expressway when an articulated fuel tanker ran into a Toyota Hilux, which gutted fire immediately.
Confirming the accident, spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bauchi Sector Command, Rilwan Sulaiman, told The Guardian that the crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon and “two persons were burnt beyond recognition” while three other injured persons were rush to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Rilwanu said: “The accident occurred at Tashan Durum between a fuel tanker with registration number BSA-664-XA and a government-owned Toyota Hilux with number plate FG-632-A15. It was very unfortunate that the diesel tanker lost control and ran into the van before exploding. Two people were burnt beyond recognition.”
He said the FRSC had embarked on aggressive public enlightenment on how to reduce avoidable road crash among articulated vehicle drivers. Attributing last Sunday’s bloody crash to bad road, the spokesman warned the drivers to heed to the corps’ advice on road safety.
“Our people need more education on the rules and regulations while on the highway. If you look at the cause of today’s incident, it was due to mechanical failure. Had proper precaution been taken, it wouldn’t have resulted to the gory scene,” he said.
