Aviation unions have, once again, petitioned the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over the lingering Conditions of Service (CoS) and other issues affecting their members at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (Nimet).
The unions, National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), have therefore set October 15, 2025, for the commencement of indefinite industrial action in the agency.
The in-house unions had about three weeks ago, jointly petitioned their national secretariats to activate the previously suspended industrial strike within two weeks.
But the intervention of the minister led to the suspension of the strike.
This time, the national leadership of the unions, in a joint petition signed by Odinaka Igbokwe, Alo Lawrence and Abdulrazaq Saidu, NUATE, AUPCTRE and ANAP, respectively, dated October 2, 2025, and obtained by our correspondent, have notified the minister of their plans to resume the suspended strike from October 15, 2025.
The unions stated that the NiMet’s members, led by the unions, had embarked on a strike on April 22, 2025, to press home their demands for improved conditions.
They listed some of their demands to include salary relativity, minimum wage implementation, nine months arrears of consequential adjustment and 25 to 35 per cent wage award and peculiar allowance.
