Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2019 governorship election in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje and immediate past Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Wasiu Olawale Oluwo, have vowed to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) next year.

They urged the people of Lagos to support the PDP to check the overbearing influence of National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu and ultimately liberate the state.

They stated this yesterday when Oluwo paid a courtesy visit to Agbaje at his campaign office in Lagos. Oluwo, who resigned from Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s cabinet last week and defected to PDP, said the newly formed Free Lagos Group would work with Agbaje’s campaign organisation.

“The people are now determined to decide the fate of Lagos and take their destiny in their own hands. We are excited about the Free Lagos campaign, and with the Free Lagos Group, we are going to work together to make the impact of your campaign felt in Lagos,” Oluwo stated. Agbaje, however, said unseating Tinubu in Lagos would not be an easy task, but it is not impossible. “The reality is that the opposition in the state has not been in government for 19 years, unlike our rivals who have always been.”

Meanwhile, the Yoruba Self-Determination Advancement Forum (YOSEDAF) has thrown its weight behind Agbaje, describing him as the right candidate to end APC’s reign in the state.

During a media briefing in Lagos yesterday, YOSEDAF, a coalition of over 60 self-determination groups committed to democratic values in the Southwest, said it was convinced that victory for Agbaje next year will effectively translate to popular democratic empowerment for Lagos citizens.Convener of the forum, Evangelist ‘Kunle Adesokan, noted that pauperisation of the Lagos people in the name of urban renewal, destruction of community market facilities, primitive accumulation of wealth by a few have held sway in the past 15 years and should be stopped.
