Agency advocates special court for rape cases
Mercy Corps, has called on federal and state governments to establish special courts for hearing of rape cases in the country.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the global humanitarian agency said that would go a long way in accelerating the conviction of offenders.
The programme manager of the Educating Nigerian Girls in New Enterprise (ENGINE) 2 project, Chinelo Ezeobi, said the old practice in establishing a rape case by judges should also be abolished.
According to her, the world is moving fast and a scenario where rape cases were determined by tears in the female genital is no longer fashionable.
