Ahmed cautions traditional rulers against political statements

• Appoints eight first-class monarchs
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday cautioned traditional rulers in the state against making inflammatory political statements on state of the nation.

The governor advised them to channel their energies into issues that unite the country, until the much-needed positive change is achieved.He spoke in Ilorin, at the presentation of staff of office to eight first class traditional rulers across the state.

In making the warning, he said he was informed that certain politicians are fueling the local government salary crisis through inciting statements and misinformation against the government.

He mentioned the traditional rulers involved as, the Olosi of Osi, Oba Salihu Adasofegbe, Emir of Okuta, Abubakar Idris, Serobeteseri, Emir of Gwanara, Sabi Idris and Olupako of Share, Abubakar Adelodun.

Others are, the Olosi of Isanlu-Isin, Oba Solomon Olugbemiga Oloyede, Emir of Ilesha Baruba, Prof. Halidu Abubakar and Emir of Yashikira, Usman Sariki.The governor said, “As much as the upgrading of traditional rulers is necessary, it would be impractical for all the desired grading and up-grading of stools of various classes to be made at once, even at normal times,” he said.

He said the appointment of the newly elevated chiefs was carefully planned to fit the current economic situation in the country.Ahmed stressed, “This duty is even more sacred, as you are closest to the grassroots, where the impact of the current national economic challenges is most felt and experienced.”

The monarch’s appointments were made in accordance with Sections S.3 and S.5 of the Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Laws, Cap C9 of the Laws of Kwara State.

He said he was aware of the “hardship faced by basic education teachers and other local government workers, over the unfortunate delay in salary payments.
“I feel their pains and will do everything within my power to bring the crises to an end,” he added.
