Air Peace aircraft crashed into antelope in Delta – FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has sympathised with the parties involved in the collision between an antelope and an Air Peace aircraft.

The agency, however, stated that the incident did not occur at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, which it manages.

In a statement on Monday, the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah, said the incident happened at a privately managed Asaba Airport owned by the Delta State Government.

“FAAN urges the public and media outlets to verify information through official channels to prevent the spread of misinformation,” Orah said.

The Guardian reported that the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, revealed that the antelope involved in the incident was decimated.

Achimugu also stated that the aircraft was grounded after the incident, adding that flight operations of the airlines were disrupted.

He said, “Incidents like this are literal illustrations of the disruptions not caused by the airlines (domestic or international),” he said on X.

“This explainer is for illustration purposes, not to excuse airlines when they fail to do their duties to passengers.

“Even with situations like this, the airline still owes its passengers the information, refund, and other forms of care they are entitled to, and can still be sanctioned if they fail to provide the same.”
