Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has asked all political office holders and appointees in his cabinet to resign before tomorrow, April 14, 2022, if they wish to contest for 2023 general elections.

This was contained in a memo signed by Secretary to Ondo State Government (SSG), Oladunni Odu, and addressed to all political appointees in the state.

“As you are aware, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has signed the amended Electoral bill into law and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released guidelines on the conduct of the general elections, thereby signalling the commencement of political activities both at the federal and state levels.

“Consequently, and in line with the provision of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act, 2022, political and public office holders desirous of participating in the political process either as contestants for elective positions or as delegates should resign their appointments on or before Thursday, April 14, 2022.

“This is for your information and strict compliance,” the memo reads.

MEANWHILE, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, who was unanimously endorsed by his people to contest for Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency seat, has resigned yesterday, few hours after the memo.

Ojogo lauded Akeredolu for the opportunity to serve in his cabinet since 2017, affirming the need to aspire for higher office to serve his people.

It was gathered that the Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Regional Integration and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Victor Ategbole and a member of the board, Okunjimi Odimayo, have also resigned.

Ategbole and Odimayo are contesting in the Akoko South West/East and Okitipupa/Irele Federal constituencies under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was also learnt that former Special Adviser on Investment and Development but currently Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA), Boye Oyewunmi, has resigned to contest for the South Senatorial District seat, among others.
