To effectively tackle insurgency and other criminalities in the country, Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has made case for modern equipment for the Nigerian military.

Akeredolu also called for multi-level policing system as the best way to secure the country, adding that the issue of state police had become more urgent than ever in the country.

He said this yesterday during the commemoration of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day e Christian service held at St. Benedict Military Catholic Church, Owena Cantonment Nigerian Army, Akure.

Issues of better ammunition and welfare of security operatives must continue to be at the forefront, to better encourage and support the officers in their fight against criminality, he added.

The governor, however, lauded the Nigerian military’s efforts to rid the country of terrorists and other criminal elements. He appreciated the commitment of the military in securing the state by confronting kidnappers and other bad elements troubling the peace of the state.

Charging state security operatives to work together, the governor said that collaborative efforts among the security personnel could only yield peace for the people.

He implored them not to rest on their laurel, stressing that despite their concerted efforts, criminality had not abated in the state and the country at large.

“Apart from prayers, as individuals, we should empathise with the widows and dependents of our fallen heroes. One major way of doing this is to donate generously to the appeal fund by buying these emblems.”

“For the benefit of the doubt, let me emphasise that proceeds of the Emblem Appeal is for the Nigerian Legion, for the welfare of ex-servicemen and dependents of the fallen heroes,” he noted.

While reiterating the need to remember the fallen heroes and be joyful in God’s presence, the governor said despite the losses and death of public officers, the devil must be shamed.

Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Brig-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, appreciated the governor’s commitment to 32 Artillery Brigade, soldiers, widows and dependents of the fallen heroes.

He said the command recognised and valued the continued support and encouragement of the governor, urging him to be relentless in supporting them.
