Tributes poured in yesterday for former Inspector General of Police, Chief Sunday Adewusi, as family, associates and friends took turns to eulogize the gallant police officer.

Former governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, described the ex-police chief as an inspiration to all those who served under him.

Alao-Akala, at the event organised by Ogbomosho Community Foundation (OCF) held at the lecture theatre of the College of Health Sciences, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) said out of every Ogbomoso indigene, he benefited most from the late Adewusi.

Alao-Akala, who was also a former personal assistant/ADC to the late IGP recalled that he first came in contact with Adewusi in 1976 when he (Akala) was transferred from Jos to Force CID Alagbon.

He said: “He was an inspiration to all officers who served under him. The principle of leadership, courage and dedication to duty, which I learnt from him provided the sure ladder that made me accomplish effectively all duties assigned to me. This made him appoint me as his Personal Assistant and ADC when he eventually became the Inspector-General of Police in 1981.”

Earlier in his welcome address, Justice Afolabi Adeniran (rtd) lauded the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for the honour given the late Adewusi.

Adeniran described the deceased as a kind-hearted, humble and a dedicated man who’ll be sorely missed.

Chairman, Ogbomoso Community Foundation (OCF), Dr. Saka Balogun said: “Adewusi was an abundant blessing, a special and rare gift of God to Ogbomoso and the nation at large.”

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 11, Helen Kalafite, who spoke on behalf of the IGP said although she never met the late police chief in service, she expressed gratitude to him for being the person who gave her the police application form while still a corps member.

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, said that Adewusi distinguished himself academically and professionally.

A former majority leader in the House of Representatives, Mulikat Akande-Adeola, described the late Adewusi as a patriotic and courageous officer who rose to the rank of the IGP through hard work and sheer diligence.
