Alkali canvases increased funding for rail modernization projects

Minister of Transportation, Sen Said Alkali, has identified funding as one of the critical challenges mililating against the rail modernization projects in the country.

The minister emphasized the urgent need for increased funding to drive the much-needed modernization of the country’s rail infrastructure in line with
President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at National Assembly during a session with the House of Representatives committee on land and transportation, the minister underscored the pressing issues of inadequate funding hampering the progress of rail modernization projects.

Alkali emphasized that without a substantial increase in funding, the ministry would face significant hurdles in meeting its objectives of upgrading and expanding the nation’s railway network.

He further stressed the importance of conducting exchange of experience visits and providing operational logistics to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the transportation system.

According to him, these vital components, require sufficient financial support to be successfully implemented and sustained.

The call for increased funding, he said, came at a crucial juncture when the nation’s rail infrastructure is in need of substantial upgrades to meet the demands of a growing population and economy.

“Improved rail transportation not only enhances connectivity but also contributes to economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability.”

In light of these challenges, Sen Alkali urged the national assembly to prioritize the allocation of additional funds to the Ministry of Transportation.

He emphasized that increased funding is essential to propel the much-needed modernization and expansion of the rail network, ultimately benefiting the nation as a whole.

“The appeal for increased funding for the Ministry of Transportation aims to address the critical needs of the country’s rail infrastructure and propel it towards a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable future.

“As the nation looks to enhance its transportation systems, it is imperative for stakeholders to rally behind the call for increased funding to ensure the successful realization of vital rail modernization projects”, he stated.
