Alleged notorious car snatcher nabbed by Ondo police

MOTORISTS in Ondo State heaved a sigh of relief at the weekend as an allegedly notorious car snatcher identified as Jeremiah Ehindero was nabbed by the men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The suspect, according to police sources, was arrested at Badagry in Lagos State after dispossessing the owner of a Toyota Picnic Car, Albert Oluwasegun of his car in Ondo town.

Ehindero, who has been tormenting motorists in the south west geo-political region, as revealed by police sources, committed the crime in Ondo town where Oluwasegun was his last victim.

Recounting his ordeal, Oluwasegun, a commercial driver based in Ore, said the suspect hired his Toyota Picnic car with registration Number, REL 358 AA Ondo, to Owo and in the process dispossessed him of the vehicle at Ondo town where the duo had stopped to relax.

Oluwasegun explained further that the suspect beckoned him to stop at a relaxation centre in Ondo where he offered him a soft drink, which he allegedly believed to have been poisoned.

He said he instantly lost his senses after taking the drink and went into coma for several hours only to wake up thereafter and discovered that the suspect had disappeared with his vehicle.

Oluwasegun said he immediately reported the matter to the police in the state, who later tracked and arrested the suspect in Badagry with the joint efforts of his family members and police in Lagos State.

Upon his arrest, the suspect confessed to the crime and later took the police to Ibadan where he sold the stolen vehicle to a businessman identified as Olalekan.

The suspect is currently being detained at the State CID, Akure. Police spokesman, DSP Wole Ogodo confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect.

However, Ogodo quickly remarked that the suspect is not related to the former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero. He said the suspect is still undergoing interrogation, assuring that he will soon appear in court as soon as investigations into the matter are concluded.

“It is true that we have arrested one Jeremiah Ehindero, who is not in any way related to the former IGP, Sunday Ehindero. The name is just a coincidence. Investigation into the matter is ongoing. The suspect will soon appear in court.”

A senior police officer in the state CID who pleaded anonymity, said the suspect had earlier been declared wanted by the Delta State Police Command over a similar crime before he was reprimanded by the Command.
