Alleged trafficking: Court remands 37- year- old woman

Justice Kudirat Jose of a Lagos High court sitting in Ikeja yesterday remanded in prison custody, a 37 -year- old woman, Gift Nonye Ukatu for alleged harboring under age girls for domestic work.

The presiding judge remanded the suspect after she was arraigned on six count charge bordering on habouring person for purpose of forced labour, harboring under age as a domestic worker.

The suspect, who was arrested by National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) however pleaded not guilty to all the count charge preferred against her.

The offence according to the prosecution contrary to Section 22 (a) and 23(i)(a) of the Trafficking in Person’s ‎Enforcement and Administrative Act 2015.

The prosecution alleged that “between December 2014 to December 7, 2015‎ at. 16, Celia Kasie street, Idimu haboured Chinanza Alozie (F) 12 years and Favour Ibrahim (F) 12 years for the purpose of forceful labour and as a domestic worker.
