Leading technology accelerator, ALX continues to dazzle in the digital technology space after bagging the Social Innovation Award at the 5th edition of the just-concluded Art of Technology Awards held at the Landmark Events Centre in Lagos.

The ceremony was part of a two-day event organised by the Lagos State government to recognise individuals, organizations, and start-ups that have excelled in their efforts to stimulate the growth of the Nigerian tech ecosystem.

ALX was declared winner of the Social Innovation Award, which was meant to honour start-ups that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to social innovation and fostering sustainable development through their technological innovations. In a highly contested category, the tech provider secured the highest votes beating other top nominees such as Slum2School, LifeBankNG, Hervest, Clafiya, MDaas Global, and Dynalimb Technologies.

While reacting to the award, Country Manager ALX Nigeria, Ruby Igwe, described the recognition as a reinforcement of the organisation’s mission.

“For many years we have worked so hard to empower thousands of youths in Nigeria with global tech skills that will transform our learners into leaders that are employable, ethical, and entrepreneurial in mindset. The testimonials of our current learners and the success stories of our ALX fellows are our biggest motivations, and this special award just fired us up to do more. We will continue to contribute to social innovation in Nigeria. This is why we have extended our educational campaigns to secondary schools in Lagos,” she said.

In his welcome address, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, called on all federal and state actors to collaborate with players within the tech space. “When we work together, we will be able to implement measures that will safeguard intellectual property and cultivate an environment where creativity is not only protected but also flourishes,” he said.

The host and Commissioner of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Lagos State, Tunbosun Alake, explained that the choice of the conference theme was because the creative economy stands as one of the fastest-growing sectors in the Nigerian economy, underlining the significance of its focus at the event.

The event which was themed “The Creative Economy and a Digital Lagos” gathered numerous stakeholders in the film, music, fashion, design, and advertising sectors. It featured several keynotes, panel sessions, and exhibitions.
