An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Rivers State, Princewill Dike, has left for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Rivers State, Princewill Dike, has left for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawyer, who hails from the same Ubima community with the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, said he dumped the party because of his belief that APC was heading for the precipice, having ignored several warnings.

The former Special Assistant on Students Affairs to Amaechi during his time as governor claimed that his advice on how to rescue the party had fallen on deaf ears.

Dike said he decided to pitch tent with Governor Nyesom Wike on account of his performance, especially in the areas of infrastructure development.

His words: “A political party is a vehicle for political power. When I observed that Rivers APC is heading for the precipice, I began lamenting. Alas, they tagged me a prophet of doom, as did Jeremiah by the Israelites.

“I didn’t stop at lamenting, but also proffered solutions on how to steer the ship away from the cliff, but it was also ignored by the party. My advice was not heeded. So, why should I continue to be in a party that is apparently set for destruction and have my political destiny wasted?”

Meanwhile, Acting State Publicity Secretary of the party, Darlington Nwauju, said those who left the party, have committed a political mistake by not “prognosticating correctly on the age-long political behaviour of Rivers people when it comes to transition.”

He expressed optimism that the party would take over government from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, citing internal wrangling within the party and the governor’s governing style.”

Nwauju, who also said the APC is well-structured in the state, having “stamped its presence in every polling in all the wards, reposed confidence in the efficiency of the Bi-Modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine,” saying it would curb electoral malpractices next year.

The spokesman went on: “Rivers people shall understand the reason why the party believes that those who recently left it had committed a political mistake by not prognosticating correctly on the age-long political behaviour of Rivers people when it comes to transition.

“APC in Rivers is forced to reveal that the aggressive and non-inclusive leadership style of the PDP administration in the state and its inability to run an accountable and transparent government in the past seven years has caused huge frustration and a hunger for change. This, thus, makes it easier for the APC to take over the Brick House come next year.”
