Ita-Giwa condoles with Braithwaite’s family
The Lagos State Government on Tuesday immortalised the late Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, by naming Dolphin Park, Ikoyi after him. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode announced the honour at the Service of Songs for the deceased at Yard 158, Oregun on Tuesday evening.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Idiat Oluranti, said the immortalisation was in recognition of Braithwaite’s contribution to the growth of the state and Nigeria in general. In his tribute, Ambode said the deceased deserved his place on the honour scroll of the state.
According to him, the Braithwaite family would be called for commissioning when the facility is touched up. He added that the activist and legal luminary during his life time fought for true democracy as he joined other democracy icons like Bola Ige, Chief Abraham Adesanya, Bola Tinubu and others to fight the military government of late General Sani Abacha.
Yesterday, former Presidential Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, paid condolence visits to the families of the former governor of Delta State, late Chief Felix Ibru and that of human rights crusader and nationalist, Dr. Tunji Braithwaithe.
Ita-Giwa described the former governor and distinguished Senator as a humble leader and a consummate family man, whose legacies will continue to endure the test of time.
She noted that as a Senator, the late Ibru even though wasn’t a principal officer learned the legislative processes quick and became a leader that was often consulted in the Senate. She prayed that Almighty God should console his widow, Mrs. Malthida Ibru and all that he left behind.
In the same vein, Ita Giwa praised the contributions of the late presidential candidate, Tunji Braithwaithe, for living a good life and fighting whichever course he believed in for the development of the nation.
She said Braithwaite’s voice reverberated across the nation, especially when government policies were not people oriented and urged the family to be proud because their father lived a good life and excelled in his chosen careers.
