Anambra govt denies alleged N3.5b vote buying as APGA wins majority seats in assembly poll

Soludo
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has denied the rumour making the rounds that his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led government spent a whopping N3.5 billion to execute last Saturday’s state Assembly election in the state.
This is coming on the heels of the released state Assembly election results, indicating that APGA won 17 out of the 30 seats, leaving Labour Party with eight seats, Young Progressives Party (YPP), three, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), two seats.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Anambra State, Queen Agwu, confirmed they conducted only the state Assembly election last Saturday in the state.
In a statement, yesterday, in Awka, the Press Secretary to Soludo, Christian Aburime, described the information as despicable and illogical, saying that N3.5 billion could not be disbursed at a time when the society was passing through a crunchy cashless phase.
According to him, Soludo did not need to buy votes to win an election, insisting that the governor is a democrat, who enjoys the overwhelming support of the good people of Anambra State.
The statement reads: “The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to a false publication being peddled in sections of the media suggesting that the state government spend N3.5 billion to secure majority seats for APGA in last Saturday’s state Assembly election in the state.
“The allegation is baseless, especially at a time of acute shortage of cash due to Federal Government naira redesign policy.
“The bogus claims by peddlers of such rumour are figments of their imagination and should be disregarded by the general public.”
