Anambra Govt. verifies service records of LG workers
Anambra State Government said it had started verifying the records of service of its local government workers.
Mr Peter Eganti, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Anambra State, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Tuesday.
Eganti said the commission had observed that some workers were progressing in service based on their fraudulent practices “which we are bent on stopping.”
He reiterated his resolve to instill discipline and ethical conduct in the local government system for enhanced service delivery.
He stressed that a disciplined civil service will enthrone a workforce that is service-oriented.
“Governor Willie Obiano has been wonderful in his resolve to alleviate workers’ plight and based on that, I expect nothing but discipline and ethical conduct from the workers so that the governor will even do more for them.
“We have started verification of workers records of service. We have observed that some workers are progressing in service based on their fraudulent practices which we are bent on stopping.
“We have set up a taskforce to determine the seniority list to help us to strengthen staff records.
“This commission is doing all it can to improve the standard of living of workers in the rural areas with a view to making them happy while in service. I call on the elected council chairmen to make the welfare of their workers paramount.”
He said the commission was working with the executives to provide an enhanced welfare package for their workers in the hinterlands.
