Supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, are to gather in Awka, Anambra State capital, in what has been described as Anambra Five Million Mother-of-all-rallies, planned to hold on September 17.
The grand finale is planned to kick-start campaign for Obi to emerge the next president of Nigeria in 2023. Ahead of the event, another round of rally, to shore up support of stakeholders, including friends of Obi, LP, support groups, market unions, non-indigenous people, students, among others, is underway at the instance of the organising committee chairman and former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Don Onochie, who explained that the coming Onitsha mega rally for Obi is to hold September 10, 2022.
This is coming on the heels of last Sunday’s “Onitsha Obi-dients’ mega rally, which shut down the commercial city as supporters marched from Godwin Achebe Stadium through Ofili Street, Upper Iweka and terminated at Ikpeazu Stadium, chanting pro-Obi songs.
Their march, which started at 7:00 am and lasted till 6:00 pm, saw them carry placards, some of which read: “We are Obi-dients;” “We No Dey collect shishi;” “Obi all the Way;” “With Obi, Nigeria will move from consumption to production,” etc.
The convener of the One Million Man-march, Onitsha Mega Rally, which held last Sunday, Chibuike Akpotue, pointed out that the mega march is an idea to physically showcase that their choice of Obi, who is currently dominating social media platforms positively, is not a fluke as his structure is also on ground.
Akpotue, who is the National President of Obi PVC Vanguard, hinted that, at the onset, supporters were only keen on the emergence of a credible candidate, who can turn around the economic downturn in the country, honestly tackle security challenges and nip political crisis in the bud.
He observed that, since Obi fits into the credentials they set out, the support groups have no choice than to pitch camp with the LP and its presidential candidate. He stressed that Obi is the best and most popular candidate among other contenders.
