The Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ike, has urged the newly inaugurated executives of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) in the Southeast to exercise humility, service, and holiness as they assume leadership roles in the ecumenical body.
The inauguration, held on Saturday, formally installed the CCN Southeast executives led by Territorial Envoy, Dr. Levi Monanu. The ceremony was presided over by the CCN National President, Most Rev. David Onuoha, and included the swearing-in of other executive members, such as Most Rev. Ibeawuchi Agu as Chairman, Rev. Steven Nlemchukwu as Secretary, Rev. Samuel Ibemere as Assistant Secretary, Dr. J.C. Agbo as Treasurer, Mr. Lewechi Ogwo as Financial Secretary, and Bishop James Igwe as Public Relations Officer.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Ike emphasized the role of Christian leaders in society, urging them to use their positions to serve both God and humanity. “Church leaders should stop comparing themselves with others as doing so is unwise. They should put an end to prosperity preaching and fake miracles,” he said. He called on the executives to foster unity among the faithful and to exemplify virtues such as patience, humility, and gentleness in their work.
Bishop Ike further stated, “Without holiness, no minister, no bishop, general overseer, or reverend would see God. You must become a light that shines in truth and character in the world.” He highlighted teamwork as essential, reminding the new executives to live up to public expectations and to accept each other’s shortcomings.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Monanu outlined his vision for the CCN Southeast, pledging to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and collaboration across denominations. “It is with utmost reverence and privilege that I stand before you to be installed as the Chairman, Southeast Zone of this esteemed ecumenical organisation. I stand humbled by this responsibility,” he said.
Monanu also encouraged civic participation, urging residents in the zone to register, obtain voter cards, and elect credible leaders. “Our council will support men and women of vision, integrity, and impeccable character to lead, ensuring that the youth, women, and marginalized are included in the journey of faith and nation-building,” he said.
He added that breaking denominational walls and working collectively as one body in Christ would be central to their approach. “If we stand together, we will not only strengthen the church, but also secure a Southeast where faith inspires unity, unity sustains peace, and peace drives development,” Monanu stated.
The event drew several church leaders and dignitaries from across the Southeast, highlighting the importance of collaboration and the council’s role in fostering both spiritual and social development in the region.
