Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has advised Nigerians to contribute to humanity with a view to leaving a legacy for posterity, a step that would also leave their feet in the sands of time.

He gave the advice, yesterday, at the first year memorial service for His Grace, The Most Rev. Humphrey Bamishebi Olumakaiye, held at Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, which was attended by dignitaries, including the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Professor of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Ralph Akinfeleye; Dean emeritus, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), The Most Rev. Adebola Ademowo and his wife, Oluranti, Bishop of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), The Rt. Rev. James Olusola Odedeji; Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State chapter, Bishop Stephen Adegbite and other bishops.

Sanwo-Olu described Olumakaiye as an esteemed spiritual father, who would forever be remembered for his contribution to education and development of Lagos State.

The Bishop, Diocese of Lagos, Rt. Rev. Ifedola Gabriel Okupevi, described Olumakaiye as mentor, a good leader, fearless preacher, prayer warrior, humanitarian and considerate leader, who at the time of COVID-19 ensured that staff salaries and allowances were paid.

He prayed for the wife, Motunrayo and the son, Richard, for God’s continuous protection.

The preacher, Bishop of Awori, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), The Rt. Rev. Akin Atere, who ministered on the topic: “The memory of Humphrey Olumakaiye is blessed” advised the people in the diocese and the hosts of bishops, both present and absent, to know that they would all leave the world one day and should therefore do the works for which they would be well remembered.
