Another terrible loss…
. 18-seater bus plunges into Arun River in Ogun
AN unspecified number of passengers were feared dead yesterday when an 18-seater commercial bus plunged into the Arun River at Ogere, near Ijebu Ode in Ogun State.
The Public Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that rescue operation had begun.
“A report has just reached NEMA that an 18-seater bus plunged into Arun River at Ogbere, after Ijebu Ode in Ogun.”
“NEMA, in strong partnership with the Ogun State Government, Ijebu East Local Government Council, the Federal Road Safety Commission and the police have mobilised local volunteers and divers to begin recovery of the victims,’’ Farinloye said.
He, however, noted that only two bodies had been recovered from the scene.
It would be recalled that in 2012, a similar incident occurred when a 32-seater bus also plunged into the same river, killing 22 people heading for a wedding.
