APC faults police for inviting Fani-Kayode despite DSS quizzing

Fani-Kayode
All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted police interrogation of a member of its presidential campaign council, Femi Fani-Kayode, for alleging a coup d’état.
In a statement by National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, APC said the action by the police on the matter, which is already under investigation by Department of State Services (DSS), gives cause for concern.
Warning against breach of Fani-Kayode’s fundamental rights, the party questioned rationale for the action, which it said amounts to duplication of effort by a coordinate law enforcement agency.
It said: “Fani-Kayode is an upstanding and law-abiding citizen of Nigeria. He honoured the invitation by the DSS and submitted himself fully to their investigative authority and continues to cooperate with the investigation.
“While we recognise the constitutional authority of the Nigeria Police Force to initiate and conduct criminal investigations, we urge extreme caution in this matter, so as not to inadvertently lend itself to unnecessary speculation as to the rationale for simultaneous and multiple investigation into this matter.”
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to relentlessly exploit and politicise this matter that is the active subject of law enforcement investigation. That is simply unconscionable and disturbing.”
Recall that Fani-Kayode was invited and interrogated by the DSS, last Monday, for alleging Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, was holding secret meetings with army generals.
Following the interrogation, Fani-Kayode was admitted to administrative bail and ordered to report daily to the DSS as the spy agency continues investigation into the matter.
