IN his reaction to summon of the Senate President Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Senator Obinna Ogba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Ebonyi Central said what is happening to Saraki is a clear case of witch-hunt and not unconnected with the issue of leadership in the National Assembly.

He said: “I am surprised that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government is behaving this way as if they do not have respect for the rule of law. But all things being equal, I have a strong belief that the 8th National Assembly is focused.

“We will continue to do our job and Saraki remains the President of the 8th Senate. We will see how they will go. They have abandoned all the promises they made to Nigerians and have started chasing a different thing altogether.”

On its implications for the Senate, Ogba said it is difficult to state how the unfolding drama would affect the 8th Senate, for now, since it is still on break.

“When we resume, if it continues, we would be able to say how bad it will go. But the fact remains that impeachment of Saraki can only be carried out by senators, not APC as a party.

“The Senate does not belong to APC, neither does it belong to PDP. It belongs to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and all of us are shareholders of that.

“The truth is that APC has no capacity to remove Saraki. We, in the Senate, have absolute confidence in the leadership of Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu,” he stressed.
