APC, PDP lawmakers dump parties

Two members of the House of Representatives from the two major political parties in Nigeria, All Progressives Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Wednesday resigned their membership from the parties.

This is coming barely seven days after the two parties lost a member each, Akinlaja Joseph who represents Ondo East/West federal constituency of Ondo State and Olatoye Temitope representing Lagelu / Akinyele Federal Constituency of Oyo State, in the green chamber.

The defectors, Hassan Omale representing Ankpa/Omala/Omalaboro federal constituency of Kogi State and Mohammed Soba of Soba constituency of Kaduna State.

Omale had recently dumped the APC for the PDP in August saying that lack purposeful leadership and internal democracy in the Kogi state chapter of the APC as its Achilles heels.

Omale again defected to the Action Democratic Party (ADP), while Soba announced his defection from the ruling party but did not mention his new party.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, declared the seat of late Funke Adedoyin vacant.

Adedoyin, until her demise last month, was a member of the House of Representatives from Kwara State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I wish to declare vacant the seat of late Olufunke Adedoyin, who was until her death an honourable member representing Ekiti/Irepodun Constituency of Kwara State in the House of Representatives.

“This is in compliance with the requirements of the 1999 Constitution as amended,” the Speaker announced on the floor of the House.
