The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has dismissed claims by the Kwankwasiyya Movement that its members were responsible for a violent disruption of a political gathering over the weekend in Ruwan Bago, Rogo community.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement had alleged that armed political thugs linked to the APC stormed the event, injuring more than eleven people, including the NNPP chairman in Rogo Local Government, a former PDP National Assembly candidate, and several supporters. They also claimed that at least three vehicles and other property were vandalised. The gathering was reportedly organised to formally receive prominent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the NNPP, with security agencies notified in advance.
In response, APC Publicity Secretary in Kano, Hon. Auwalu Soja Gwale, described the allegations as “false, fabricated, and deliberately intended to tarnish the image of the ruling party.” Gwale stressed that the APC remains committed to peaceful democratic engagement and has never sanctioned or encouraged violence against members of any political organisation.
He further urged the Kwankwasiyya Movement to focus on resolving internal tensions arising from defections and political realignments within its ranks, rather than blaming the APC for the incident.
The party expressed support for a thorough and impartial investigation by relevant security agencies and emphasised that anyone found culpable should face the full weight of the law, regardless of political affiliation. APC also called on all political actors in Kano State to avoid actions or statements that could escalate tensions, stressing that disagreements should be resolved peacefully.
