APGA accepts outcome of elections in Ebonyi
THE All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi, yesterday, said the leadership of the party has accepted the outcome of all the March 28 and April 11 elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
State chairman of the party, Mr. Jerry Obasi, stated this in Abakaliki while briefing journalists. He, however, noted that the conduct of the polls did not meet the expectations of the party, saying that it decided to accept its outcome just to give room for change in the state.
Obasi, who is also the running mate of the APGA governorship candidate, said the party appreciates the shift of power to the South Senatorial District through the emergence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dave Umahi, in the last election.
According to him, APGA, as a political party, would continue to form strong opposition base to ensure that democracy dividends get to the people of the state.
Obasi advised the incoming administration to shun corruption or acts capable of ruining the economic prospects of the state.
“Even when I quarrel much about the outcome of the election, there are areas where every political party also faulted; the election was not perfect. However, I accept the outcome, and there is need for the state to forge ahead. I will continue to criticise the incoming administration; I will remain critical about issues that will not help the state,” he said.
“I believe in social justice, equity and fair play; I advise the Governor-elect to learn from history; his main agenda should be focused on infrastructure, education among others. He should not engage in looting public funds, but engage in meaningful development of the state. Umahi should write his name in gold through his developmental initiatives. I accept the outcome of the election and congratulate him. We have not decided to go to the tribunal.”
