Citing the recent Supreme Court corrections in its October 14, 2021 judgment in the protracted leadership crisis in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Edozie Njoku has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise him immediately as National Chairman of the party.

Njoku, who attached the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the apex court in the demand letter to the electoral umpire, prayed the commission to act swiftly on the judgment in the interest of justice, equity and fair play.

In the letter dated April 4, 2023, which was signed by the party’s National Secretary, Muhyideed Imam, the national chairman reminded INEC that origin of the crisis followed disputes by the party’s two deputy national chairmen over who should take charge after his purported suspension.

While stressing that Jude Okeke was recognised as acting national chairman by INEC after the Jigawa State High Court, Birnin Kudu affirmed Njoku’s purported suspension, the party declared: “The Supreme Court, in its judgment, resolved conclusively the APGA leadership dispute in favour of Chief Edozie Njoku as the undisputable chairman of the party whose purported removable as national chairman was declared null and void by the apex court.

“It needs to be stated at this point that the dispute being who should be the Acting National Chairman of the 1st respondent, APGA and whether the chairman, Edozie Njoku, was validly replaced are within the confines of the internal affairs of the 1st respondent, which is not justiciable.”

The letter bearing the CTC was addressed to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, while copies were sent to Taninu Inuwa (SAN), Director, Litigation and Prosecution Legal Department; Abdulazeez Sani (SAN), Chief Legal Officer and El Hassan Umar (SAN), Chief Legal Officer at INEC Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja.

Njoku expressed the hope that having served INEC with the CTC of the ruling, the question of who is the national chairman of APGA has been put to rest finally, even as he assured that he would be magnanimous in the rebuilding process of the party.
