Appeal Court Reaffirms Jang’s Election
THE Court of Appeal sitting in Jos yesterday upheld the election of Senator Jonah David Jang as duly elected senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District.
The court dismissed the appeal brought to it by the defeated candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs. Eunice Ayisa Sambo.
Jang contested on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). When the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Jang the winner of the election, Sambo, not satisfied, rushed to the National Assembly Tribunal with an avalanche of complaints.
After listening to the proceedings that ran its full course at the tribunal, the tribunal returned Jang as duly elected but Sambo carried her case to the Court of Appeal in Jos.
In a judgment delivered yesterday by Mr. Justice J.S. Ikuegh, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal for lack of merit.
Reacting to the ruling, the State Chairman of the APC, Dr. Latep Dabang said they had no option but to abide by the judgment as the terminal court.
Sambo’s counsel, Mr. Garba Pwul (SAN), commended the industry put into the judgment by the court within a short period.
