The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu on Monday nullified the election of Senator Uche Ekwunife of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) following an appeal brought before it by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh.

Ekwunife  represented Anambra Central Senatorial District.

Her election was upheld in October by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra State.

Justice Naiyi Aganaba while reading the verdict of the tribunal said in October said, Victor Umeh failed to establish his case that Ekwunife was wrongly declared the winner of the March 28 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

But Justice A.H. Yahya of the Court of Appeal ruled that election of Senator Ekwunife did not meet the provision of the Electoral Act.

He then ordered that fresh election is held in the Anambra Central Senatorial District within 90 days.
