The Embassy of Japan in Nigeria has announced the call for applications for the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP), with a submission deadline of June 13, 2025.
The GGP is part of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) initiative by the Government of Japan, designed to support grassroots-level projects that directly improve the welfare of local communities.
Objective and Scope
The GGP aims to enhance human security and development at the community level by providing financial assistance to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and non-profit entities engaged in grassroots initiatives. The program is open to projects across several critical sectors, including:
– Primary and secondary healthcare
– Nutrition improvement
– Agriculture and fishery production or processing facilities
– Infrastructure development, including solar power systems
– Peace and stability efforts
Funding and Project Duration
The maximum grant allocation for each project is 10 million Japanese Yen, subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Applicants are advised to budget accordingly to accommodate potential currency variations.
All selected projects must be completed within one year from the date of the Grant Contract signing, excluding the final audit report submission.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants include non-profit organisations, such as national and international NGOs, hospitals, clinics, educational institutions, and local government bodies that implement grassroots development projects in Nigeria. Individuals, private companies, and for-profit entities are not eligible.
Organisations must be officially registered with relevant government agencies and have a track record of at least two years in project implementation.
