Arase warns militants against criminal activities
Piqued by the rising cases of kidnapping in the Bakassi axis, the Inspector-General of police, (IGP) Solomon Arase, has warned militants and other criminal elements involved to stay off or face prosecution.
Arase, who gave this warning on Wednesday, at a stakeholders meeting in Calabar, urged the public to help the police identify criminals in their neighborhood, by knowing the people living in their community.
He declared that “Criminals can never over whelm a state. It has never happened anywhere in the world and it will not happen in Nigeria. Occasionally it may seem as if they are having an upper hand, but at the end they always end up badly.”
While calling for community policing, Arase charged traditional rulers to work with the police by forming the age group system that would help fight crime.
He restated that given, “The present issues in the country; insurgency, kidnapping, and armed robbery, it is of necessity that the police will have to bend backward to rely on the various communities in which they are working, to be able to achieve what they are supposed to achieve.”
