As Governor Bassey Edet Otu marks two years in office, the Archbishop of Calabar and President of the Cross River State Christian Leaders Forum, Josef Bassey, has praised his administration as a divine instrument for restoring the soul and destiny of Cross River State.
In a statement released on Monday, Archbishop Bassey said the Governor had quietly rewritten the narrative of a state once plagued by moral and infrastructural decline, describing his tenure as “a divine project of restoration.”
“Two years ago, Cross River stood at the edge of despair,” the Archbishop said. “But today, under a leader who walks with God and works with vision, we are witnessing recovery, renewal, and a clear return to our prophetic path.”
He commended Governor Otu’s efforts in key sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, and security. The administration, he noted, had revived critical road networks, attracted investment to the agricultural sector, introduced educational reforms, and declared free tuition in all public primary and secondary schools.
Beyond tangible development, the Archbishop highlighted what he described as a spiritual revival taking place under Otu’s leadership. He lauded the Governor’s decision to rededicate the state to God, saying such a move signalled a return to the values that once defined Cross River’s identity.
“He is not just rebuilding structures; he is restoring the soul of the state. Cross River is once again on God’s altar,” he declared.
Archbishop Bassey described Governor Otu as a “noiseless, compassionate achiever” who has chosen deliberate action over public fanfare. He credited the Governor’s achievements to divine guidance, personal discipline, and a clear sense of purpose.
“He met a state in ruins and has, through divine guidance and personal discipline, realigned it with purpose. His leadership is a miracle in motion,” the Archbishop added.
Offering counsel as the administration enters the second half of its tenure, he urged the Governor to maintain focus and intensify efforts towards delivering legacy-defining achievements. He advised that this was not the time to be distracted by political calculations, but rather to undertake a bold re-evaluation of priorities and cleanse the government of underperforming officials.
“The foundation has been laid. Now, the next two years must be marked by strategic boldness and landmark achievements. The glory days we prophesy are not in the distance—they are here, waiting to be birthed,” he said.
He called on residents of Cross River to continue supporting the Governor through prayer and unity, adding that the restoration of both infrastructure and moral values is cause for celebration.
“We rejoice today, not only because roads are being built and farms are producing, but because righteousness is being restored in our land. Truly, this is the Lord’s doing,” the statement concluded.
Governor Otu’s second anniversary celebrations are expected to spotlight key achievements while reaffirming the administration’s long-term vision for transforming Cross River into a model state.
