The group said though it has warned severally that the development was unacceptable, the recent ugly incident in Akure, the domain of one of the foremost Yoruba monarchs, the Deji of Akure, brings the issue once again to the fore.
It would be recalled that the Igbo community in Akure clashed with the town’s indigenes recently, alleging that the Deji planned to dethrone the Igbo monarch, Eze- Ndigbo, Sir Gregory Iloehike, on grounds of alleged insubordination, an action, the Igbos said, the Deji lacked the jurisdiction over.
In a statement on Friday, the group’s publicity secretary, Kunle Famoriyo, said the title of Eze Ndigbo in Yorubaland is not backed by any customary law and is therefore considered alien.
“The evolution of this structure has forced us to consider it as an expansionist agenda as the structure is only rampant in Yorubaland,” the statement said.
