The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has warned community leaders in Taraba State against making inflammatory remarks or taking actions that could reignite tensions between the Tiv and Fulani communities in Bali Local Government Area.
Brigadier General Uwa issued the caution on Friday, during a conflict resolution dialogue aimed at addressing ongoing communal clashes in the region.
Emphasising the importance of dialogue in resolving disputes, he urged leaders from both communities to adopt a spirit of tolerance, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to supporting civil authorities through non-violent means. Enduring peace can only be achieved when communities actively participate and take ownership of the peace process,” General Uwa stated.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Chairman of Bali Local Government Council, Dauda Aboki, commended the Nigerian Army for its proactive efforts. He pledged the support of the local government and community leaders in collaborating with security agencies to sustain peace in the area.
A highlight of the dialogue, as noticed by The Guardian, was the signing of a peace pact by all attendees.
The agreement includes commitments to a zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities, respect for the rule of law, the promotion of communal harmony, and the resolution of disputes through peaceful and legal channels.
