The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division Garrison recently organised a free medical outreach in Ogoloma community, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, as part of the 2025 Army Day Celebration.

Over 2,000 residents benefited from the event, which provided essential healthcare services, including malaria tests, eye tests, sugar level checks, HIV screening, hepatitis B and C tests, free consultations, and the distribution of medications.

The Commander, 6 Division, Garrison Sector 3 Joint Task Force, South South, Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, explained that the outreach was in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, to strengthen the relationship between the military and civilians while also demonstrating the Army’s concern for the well-being of communities.

Ahmed, represented by the Commanding Officer of the 6 Division Garrison Admin Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Orobosa Igheghe, noted that the event exemplifies the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to serve the nation and its host communities, with the core values of discipline, integrity, and service to humanity.

He said, “As we honour the sacrifices and dedication of our nation’s heroes, we recognise the importance of reciprocating the support of the communities that enable us to fulfil our constitutional mandate.

“This medical outreach is a tangible manifestation of our pledge to impact the lives of those around us positively.”

The King of Ogoloma Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Emmanuel Tamunoigbeibia Obudibo, expressed appreciation for the medical outreach, noting it was the first time the community had experienced such an initiative.

He highlighted that the event showcases the Army’s dedication to the well-being of the people, beyond just security.

Also, beneficiaries of the outreach expressed gratitude to the Army for providing free medicines and glasses that many couldn’t afford.
