Army patches major road in Ogun

The 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) yesterday embarked on palliative work on a major road, leading to its barracks.

The busy six-kilometer road begins at Lafenwa, a suburb of Abeokuta, the state capital, and ends at the Alamala Barracks.

Men and officers of the 35 Artillery Brigade took up the palliative work in conjunction with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Lagos, Maj-Gen. Olu Irefin, flagged off the project.

Irefin noted that the exercise was “part of the civil-military palliative of Operation Crocodile Smile.”

Residents and road-users applauded the army for the work, describing the state of the road as “disgusting and terrible.”

The army appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to assist their efforts by fixing the road, saying the present bad of the road was limiting their quick response to crime scenes when needed.

According to him, the palliative will bring succour to road-users and ease movement along the routes.

He added, “This (palliative) is a civil-military palliative to help our neighbours who are assisting us, to be able to move freely within our communities.”
