Another highly placed person has died in a motor accident. Nigerians may be paying for the lack of commitment to building good roads and maintaining them. We suffer more from our own ineptitude. We only understand how to “chop.” We cant compare Nigeria to the developed world in the area of infrastructure but at least we can copy and try to catch up with the developed world that has laid the example for all to see. But unfortunately, we are like a bunch of serious group of people that happened to have found themselves in the same geographical location called Nigeria and are always seeking to pursue selfish and individual interests in the name of corruption at the expense of the society. “Corruption enriches the individual but destroys the society.” The bad roads that are killing us may be a result of our massive corrupt nature that is destroying our society. Look closely into awards of Nigerian road contracts, what you will see will amaze you negatively. Check out the roads in the developed countries that are so close to perfect and you will wonder how an accident can occur on them. We need to sit up and put to practice what we hear in our gigantic churches and mosques that benefit the human race. May his soul rest in peace.
