Arogundade charts path to curb fake news
Director, International Press Centre (IPC), Ogba, Lagos, Lanre Arogundade, has called on government to rise up to the demand for accountability by making information easily accessible to citizens, to allow for credible dissemination of news.
Speaking at a lecture organised by National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS), Lagos State University (LASU), he tasked journalists on professionalism and the discipline of verification to curb fake news.
The lecture themed ‘The implication of fake news for democratic consolidation in Nigeria’ held at the Ojo campus of the university. He noted that the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act empowers citizens to request information of public interest from the government who are obligated to respond.
