Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals launches digital procurement platform to tackle healthcare inefficiencies in Nigeria

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals has launched a new digital procurement platform for Nigeria’s health sector, alongside an initiative to improve medicine supply chains, as part of efforts to tackle systemic inefficiencies affecting hospitals and pharmacies across the country.

The unveiling of the company’s B2B E-Commerce Platform and Scepter360 Pharma coincided with Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. Both solutions are designed to address persistent problems of delayed supplies, stockouts, and fragmented systems in the delivery of healthcare.

The B2B E-Commerce Platform allows healthcare institutions to digitise the process of ordering medicines and medical supplies. Hospitals and pharmacies will be able to browse catalogues with contract-specific pricing, track inventory and deliveries in real time, and approve bulk orders securely.

Speaking at the launch, Gerald Damasus, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, said the initiative was about reducing inefficiency in the health sector. “Nigeria’s Independence Day is not only a celebration of our history, but a reminder of our ability to shape the future,” he said. “We are building a healthcare system that is independent of inefficiency, fragmentation, and barriers to access. Our mission is simple: to give healthcare providers the tools they need to deliver the best care possible.”

Alongside the digital procurement system, the company also presented Scepter360 Pharma, a platform aimed at strengthening medicine availability and distribution. It integrates technology, data, and logistics to improve the flow of medicines to health facilities.

According to Arrowhead, the system is designed to cut procurement costs, reduce shortages, and create more sustainable revenue models for healthcare providers. “The goal is to ensure medicines are available where and when they are needed most,” Mr Damasus said.

The company is also developing the wider Scepter360 Suite, which will include modules for patient records, workforce management, pharmacy inventory, telemedicine, and public health reporting. Unlike conventional systems designed for high-resource environments, Arrowhead says the platform is being tailored to Africa’s conditions, including unreliable connectivity and limited budgets.

Mr Damasus explained that the broader suite would be phased in. “We are designing Scepter360 not for ideal conditions, but for Africa’s realities,” he said. “That is what makes it practical and sustainable.”

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals described the launch as part of its broader mission to strengthen healthcare delivery in Africa through digital innovation. The B2B platform is now live and available to healthcare providers across Nigeria.
