ASCSN cautions against retrenchment at NIMC
MEMBERS of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) have urged President Goodluck Jonathan to resist alleged plans to sack about 1,000 management staff at National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
In a press statement issued by ASCSN Secretary-General, Alade Bashir Lawal, at the weekend, the union blamed the management of NIMC for allegedly instigating industrial crisis.
According to the ASCSN in 2012, about 5,000 junior employees of the commission were dismissed “without following due process and for no genuine reason whatsoever”.
The Union explained that the NIMC Management had been served court processes by the Court of Appeal, Abuja in respect of the retrenchment while the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity as well as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation had also written the Commission to stay action on the matter pending the outcome of the court action.
The statement said: “But Your Excellency has clearly demonstrated for the umpteenth time including the recent act of statesmanship by conceding victory to your main opponent in the just concluded presidential election that you subscribe to the rule of law”.
