Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has doled out N250 million to assist Al-Qalam University, Katsina State, set up its Allied Health Sciences College.
The amount is to be used to construct the Administrative Block and Conference Room of the college in the next six months. At the groundbreaking ceremony, yesterday, Managing Director, ASR Africa, Dr Ubon Udoh, said the initiative had, back in 2022, announced its 2023 Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS), which covers 22 tertiary institutions, including Al-Qalam.
According to Udoh, education is the primary area of interest for ASR Africa, and its chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, is committed to “supporting quality tertiary education in Nigeria and Africa at large.”
He commended the management of the institution for cooperating with ASR Africa Infrastructure team by providing prompt feedback and returning documentation on the project to ease its take off.
Vice Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Prof Nasiru Yauri, described the project as a timely intervention, even as he commended ASR Africa for finding the institution worthy of the grant.
“Upon completion of the project, staff and students under the bachelor’s degree programme in Nursing Science, Public Health, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Optometry and Medical Laboratory in the 2023/2024 academic year will have lecture rooms and offices for their programme,” he said.
