Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has lauded the progress in the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH),Okitipupa, commending the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa and other staff for their commitment to realising the goal of the institution’s establishment.
Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, made the commendation after the VC rolled out the achievements of the OAUSTECH in the last four years at the 9th convocation of the university held at Okitipupa.
The progress of the institution was also praised by the Chancellor and Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, and the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Akinbo Adesmoju, in their speeches.
Among the feats is the advancement from research to the commercialisation of a novel scientifically formulated product named FIX-IT, which was designed by the Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Research Unit as a supplement to support cardiovascular health in men. Other achievements are in the areas of academic development and new programmes, increase in student enrolment, full accreditation of all programmes, infrastructural development, internationalisation and linkages, improved staff welfare and benefits as well as stable academic calendar and electricity supply.
Ologunorisa described this year’s convocation as unique because it featured the graduation of the first PhD student and it was the last he would attend as vice-chancellor as the end of his tenure draws closer.
He craved government’s assistance on the non-implementation of approved 2026 subvention and capital plan for the university, School of Science Building, School of ICT.
NDDC Student Hostel, OSOPADEC Student Hostel, and the on-going road project in the school.
The elated governor said the state government was aware of the challenges and was working hard to address them.
Breakdown of the graduands shows one PhD, 23 Master’s degree, four post-graduate diploma in STEM Education and 1,452 Bachelor degrees.
The ceremony was also attended by top state government officials, including the Commissioner for Education, Prof. IgbekeleAjibefun;Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Ololade Gbegudu; Chairman of the House Committee on Tertiary Education, Chris Aiyebusiwa; Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philips; traditional and religious leaders as well as vice-chancellors of sister universities.
