At independence, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi urge sacrifice, unity, others
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has said Nigerians must sustain the struggle for nationhood premised on sacrifice, determination and resilience of nationalists.
In his 64th independence message, the governor acknowledged that though the nation has been grappling with nationhood, those who fought and sustained Nigeria’s survival as a country must be commended.
“I wish to congratulate our dear President and fellow compatriots on the occasion of our 64th independence anniversary. On October 1, 1960, our dear country started the journey of nationhood. Independence for Nigeria did not come easy. It was the product of the sacrifices, determination and resilience of our nationalists, workers and citizens,” he said.
His Plateau counterpart, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, called on the citizenry to embrace peace, unity, and compassion amid the unsavoury situation in the land.
In exercising his prerogative of mercy, he granted pardon to five persons, who have served various jail terms and significantly demonstrated good conduct over the years.
In a state broadcast yesterday, Mutfwang urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast in their resolve to build a united and peaceful nation that would be a source of pride for all.
His words: “It is with a deep sense of responsibility and utmost humility that I address you today (yesterday) as our great nation, Nigeria, commemorates its 64th Independence Anniversary. On this day, we honour the historic moment when we gained our sovereignty and embarked on a journey toward self-determination and nationhood.
“This day holds profound significance for every Nigerian, as it reminds us of our shared destiny and the resilient spirit that has kept us together through trials and triumphs. We owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who fought for our independence, and to the founding fathers whose vision laid the foundation for a united Nigeria.
“Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in a free and prosperous nation continue to inspire us. We salute their memory and remain committed to the ideals for which they stood.”
EQUALLY, Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has sought unity, faith, peace, and progress in the country.Reflecting on the sacrifices of national heroes and the challenges faced by the nation, he highlighted the importance of recognising the past, while working towards a brighter future.
Ododo praised the resilience and strength of the Nigerian people in the face of adversity. He commended the efforts of past leaders in guiding the nation through difficult times and acknowledged the current President Bola Tinubu administration for its bold and transformative reforms.
