No fewer than 25 people were killed during two major explosions in Chad’s capital, N’djamena, police and hospital sources said on Monday.

Dozens of people were injured when the blasts went off mid-morning in front of the police headquarters and the national police academy.

Witnesses told newsmen that a suicide bomber on a motorcycle detonated explosives at the police headquarters, located just metres from the presidential palace and the French embassy.

It remained unclear what caused the blast in front of the police academy.

Chad’s military has supported neighbouring Nigeria in the fight against Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, since February.

Boko Haram, which seeks to establish a state with its very strict interpretation of Islamic law, has killed over 14,000 people since 2009 and launched several attacks on Chadian soil.
